Opus Sectile Large Format Thassos and Carrara Octagon and Dot

This white on white Octagon and Dot pattern is inspired by the colorful Opus Sectile patterns seen throughout the Roman empire. This is a magnificent design, which gives a stately elegance to any space. The octagon-and-dot floor pattern (here expressed as octagons paired with small square insets) traces back to Classical Roman mosaic work, where geometric tessellations were used to organize space and introduce order into public baths, villas, and civic buildings. The geometry later reemerged in the Renaissance and Neoclassical periods, when architects revived Roman motifs to signal refinement, symmetry, and rational proportion. This mosaic features an octagon-and-square pattern composed of cool white marble fields framed by fine grey and light Carrara-toned accents. The dominant color read is a soft neutral white, with subtle light grey veining concentrated in the smaller square insets and linear strips. The contrast level is low to medium, giving the pattern a refined architectural presence without feeling busy.
